Taxonomist & Content Architect

Currently, we have an opportunity for a seasoned Taxonomist/ Content Architect to lend their experience to further define and implement the strategy for REI's Online hierarchies, metadata and internal search resulting in increased traffic and an enhancement of the customer experience.

Responsibilities:
This job contributes to REI's success by defining and implementing the strategy for REI's Online hierarchies, metadata and internal search results to grow REI's Online business, enhance the customer experience, and advance the core co-op values. Collaborates with Online team members and leadership to define and maintain Online content and product organizational models that grow REI's competitive advantage as a leading retailer of quality outdoor gear and clothing. Models and acts in accordance with REI's guiding values and mission.
  • Partners on strategic direction for the data, metadata, architecture and publishing of REI's digital media properties, including Web sites, e-mail, rich media, and data feeds.
  • Ensures that category specific product attributes comply with guided navigation schemas, page templates and cross-sell functionality.
  • Employs best practices in taxonomy formulation to enhance indexing, browsing, search and retrieval.
  • Assesses the scalability of the content management infrastructures and develop new processes, workflows and standards to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Establishes and maintains site data relationships, content authoring and publishing solutions.
  • Contributes to the process of Online information design to ensure that content is appropriately structured to meet Online's business goals and the needs of users.
  • Develops taxonomy and metadata structures, standards and best practices for Online initiatives and systems.
  • Provides strategic site structure plans and definitions using industry standards.
  • Provides recommendations for Online content management systems and publishing tools and processes to increase content re-use and resource efficiency.
  • Contributes to Online strategic planning, applying current knowledge and future vision of authoring and content technology and systems which significantly impact the effective execution of Online business processes.
  • Creates and maintains Online navigation organization and metadata hierarchies.
  • Defines strategy for Online structured vocabulary development, content assessment classification and organization and search strategies.
  • Partners to develop, and analyze Search Engine Optimization reports which play a key role in site traffic analysis, organic search placement, and the effectiveness of the overall Search Engine Optimization strategy.
  • Partner with Online leadership and Online merchandising to select and refine SEO keyword list and prioritize efforts for SEO work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5+ years experience in online content structure and organization
  • 3+ years experience with taxonomy design and use, preferably in an internet retailer organization
  • 3+ years experience with metadata, taxonomies, controlled vocabularies and classification schema.
  • 3+ years experience with content management systems, particularly with organizing and tagging content against a specific taxonomy
  • Solid understanding of xml, xsl, xhtml, cascading style sheets, and html
  • Preferred: Masters Degree in Library Science, Information Management, Science or related field
